WDS| Lately I had to approve my own posts to my own groups.

How do you mean, "bizarre"?
It's *EXACTLY* the same way how it works
at Yahoogroups, no difference at all.
If a group has "Moderated" status, then
everyone is moderated. But you can
change individual posting privileges
for each user, including you.
But, I repeat, it's exactly the same at
Yahoogroups.
