Oleolox

Delano Eaton

I made Oleolox for the first time last night. I started off with the
onion in the coconut oil and the heat was on medium. Then I noticed
that the recipe said 100 degrees C. Not knowing just how to get it at
that temp, I just turned the heat to as low as it would go for 15
minutes. Recipe did not say to press the garlic or not so I just used
the 10 whole garlic cloves. After 3 minutes of cooking that on low, I
let it cool for 15 minutes. Now that means the FO has been in the
freezer for 45 minutes!

Does anyone see anything that I did that would cause the Oleolox to
not be good. It looks like butter in the fridge and I know that I
cannot heat it but I can put it on some hot food and let it melt while
I am eating it, can't I?

Seems like it would be better to press the garlic.

Hi Del:

When you make your Oleolux did you realize that 100 degree's C is
212 degree's F? I bring the coconut oil to a boil to brown the onion
slightly. For the 15 minutes and then add the garlic cloves whole
for 3 minutes more. I then strain the coconut oil, and cool the
coconut oil for 15-20 minutes before adding it to the flaxseed oil.
I just don't see how you can brown the onion on such a low temp. My
husband calls it his Goldie-lox. He really enjoys it. Also if he has
some of the Oleolux on bread our dog just goes crazy for a bite.
Hope this was some help.
God Bless
Flo

Hi Flo,
Yes, that does help. I guess I did the same thing (read my first
post). I started the oil on med and it was boiling when I put in the
onion. In a couple of minutes I reread the recipe and turned the temp
down to low. The onion did brown slightly. No, I did not realize that
100 degress C was 212 degrees F. Thanks for enlightening me. You don't
leave it on high for 15 minutes, do you? So where exactly is 100
degrees C on the dial?

Del,

I strained the onion and garlic and then added it to the flaxseed oil from the freezer. I add salt when I use it. Can't imagine that it doesn't taste good.

I put the oil in the freezer for 15 minutes before starting the cooking process. When I combine then the oil has been in for 30 minutes. The hot oil melts the frozen FO.

I scrape some and put on bread or potatoes etc.

Don't use this one for the candy. I just poured the FO and coconut oil together straight for that.

I use a corning ware pan and it browns the oil without a high light. I too save the garlic and onion and put it on bread or potatoes. I will cool it in the future before adding to FO. I just followed the directions.

I have got to try this... everyone is making me curious.

Boricura,

Just remember that the oil has to cool down before mixing it with
the flaxoil as we know it is quite sensitive to heat.
