cost of Nancy's cottage cheese

Kreibich

I was on vacation last week in Laguna Beach, CA, and I stopped at the Wild Oats store there. I looked for Nancy's cottage cheese and I almost didn't see it. It was in a WHITE container instead of a BLUE container. The price was $2.29. I copied down the ingredients to compare with the ingredients of the blue container that I purchased for $4.29.

Both containers have the same ingredients, but the blue container lists every item as organic. I forgot to look the white container over for the word 'organic'. Maybe someone who has it in your refrigerator can check.

Perhaps the price difference between the white container of Nancy's cottage cheese and the blue container of Nancy's cottage cheese is whether the ingredients are organic or not.

Hi Carolyn,

The white container of Nancy's CC is not organic and the blue
container is organic. The price you're quoting from Wild Oats is high
compared to what I pay at Whole Foods in Northern California. I buy
Nancy's organic low-fat CC in the blue container and pay $2.99 for
it. I have my register tapes. The Nancy's non-organic in the white
container is about a dollar less from what I recall.

Hi Carolyn,
I don't have a white container right now, but I have checked both the
white and blue container at the store. The white container was
definitely non-organic. I just now, went to Nancy's website, I see that
both products, even the conventional, are kosher; I think that means
that the animal itself has been inspected. However, to the best of my
knowledge, kosher doesn't necessarily indicate that there are no
hormones or anti-biotics taken by the animals. I've emailed them to ask
the difference between the organic and conventional. I will post their
response when it arrives.

Kind Regards,
Janice

Here in Iowa I pay over $4 for Nancy's organic. Some of the price
difference must be shipping. You on the west coast are fortunate!

Carolyn:

We buy the ORGANIC Nancy's Cottage Cheese 1% Milkfat from our local Whole Foods. This is in the DEEP BLUE container. Initially, the cost was around $3.79. Just this week I noticed that the price has been ringing up $2.79. I speculate that the price drop is either temporary or they reduced the price because it sells very well. I know that I buy 6-7 containers at a time and that barely lasts a week so we are there quite often to load up.

Nancy's was also on sale at Wild Oats this week for 2.79. Sounds like Nancy's themselves may have initiated the sale price or maybe both Wild Oats and Whole Foods use a distributor that was running a special.

Hi,
I get organic low fat cc at Trader Joe's store for 2.99. Some of the Trader Joe's carry Nancy's as well for the same price, but I haven't found Nancy's at all stores.

Rivkah, I was disappointed with Trader Joes Organic Cottage cheese. It has a
long list of additives. Nancy's is much much shorter, and none are fillers
and additives. Rhoda
