Progress Report
Steve Taylor
Hi group!
I have been reporting my friend's status for the past several months, and a new report is due: Bob started the Budwig protocol in late March of this year after being given up for dead by his oncologist. His metz to 5 different regions of bone (prostate cancer with Gleason of 8, stage IV) were deemed untreatable by his oncologist, and he was told to "get his affairs in order." At the time, Bob was in pain and severely depressed. He called me with what I would have to say was a "Farewell" call. And after we talked, I got on the internet to see what I could find in the way of alternative therapies. It was an awesome job to sort the wheat from the chaff, but when I found Cliff Beckwith's homepage and then this group, I was encouraged. To make a long story short, I encouraged Bob to begin the Budwig protocol along with some embellishments that I felt could not hurt. Bob's most recent bone scan (July 14th) showed that his bone involvement showed only "mild" enlargement (minimal), which was surprising to everyone (doctors) familiar with his case. Quite frankly, no one expected him to be around for a bone scan at this late stage. So something is working. It is important to note that Bob has no pain and is in excellent physical shape. He visited me in Colorado in early June, and we climbed a 1,000 vertical assent mountain and rode horses extensively. At age 67, most men without cancer could not do what Bob did. Now Bob is at a critical juncture, where he must decide whether to cave to family pressure and consent to another 4-month Lupron shot and other chemo-therapy recommendations made by his doctors, or drop all of the traditional therapies and opt for the modified Budwig protocol. The jury is still out. I will let you know what he decides. I do not "advise" in these areas. I merely report information that I find on the internet, but even this is rife with complexities as I cannot report "everything," so what I pass on is obviously filtered through my prejudicial process . . . a heavy burden that! All-in-all I feel like I am witnessing a miracle of sorts: Bob goes dancing at least 2 nights a week, rides his bike for 50 miles a week, and does all of the farm chores he ever did when he didn't have cancer. So something is turning things around for Bob, and I cannot believe it is anything other than the cornerstone of his alternative treatment, FO/CC and the rest of the Budwig protocol. For anyone interested, the following is Bob's daily dietary program: 6 tbsp low fat organic cottage cheese (CC) mixed (hand blender) with 3 tbsp of Barleans refrigerated flax seed oil (FO) 1 cup diced fresh tomatoes 2 tbsp fresh ground (he grinds them just before injesting) flax seeds (FS) The FS, CC, FO & diced tomatoes are all mixed together and eaten. He does this 3 times daily. 1 or 2 mangoes daily 1 banana daily 550 miligram capsule (mg) Saw Palmetto with 10mg Lycopene capsule 6 each per day 450 mg Rasberry Extract, 6 capsules per day 550 mg Ginger capsule, 12 capsules per day 400 mg Turmeric (Curcumin, extract from ginger root), 6 capsules per day 400iu Vitamin E, 2 capsules per day 630 mg Calcium with 400iu Vitamin D (Citrical), 1 capsule per day 1/2 thumb (approximate size) of fresh ginger chopped finely 2 oz sea water 6 oz fresh orange juice Mix ginger, sea water, and oj and chug-a-lug twice daily The rest of Bob's diet consists of 70% raw vegetables and 30% cooked vegetables. Whole fruit as desired No meat, fish, chicken, dairy (except for the cottage cheese) or eggs . . . strict vegan diet. No sugar. All water is distilled. The diet is combined with stair-stepper and bicycle riding for exercise, and he makes a point of getting a minimum of 30 minutes exposure to unfiltered sunlight (outdoors, not filtered through glass (windows)). He uses no sun block while in the sun. Bob is scheduled for another bone scan in October. I will report the results at that time. Steve |

thanks for the update on Bob's condition. Very interesting. I am confused though on one point, and maybe you or someone else on this forum can shed some light. As I understand it the main sequence of events were: 1) Bob was sent home to die by the mainstream docs, 2) Bob initiated the Budwig protocol plus a very rigorous complemtary dietary and supplement regime, 3) not long after Bob began the changes in "#2", he began to feel much better, YET 4) his family and docs are pressuring him to continue with treatment that the docs themselves had previously given up on !!!! WHY ?? In particular, why is the family pressuring him to continue a treatment, especially the chemo, that was medically acknowledged to not be helping him ? Pardon my probable obtuseness, but that's what I'm confused about. Thanks ----- Original Message -----

Here's how the pressure works: Bob goes to the oncologist to get his PSAs and bone scans. The doctor always prescribes something "that will slow the cancer down," and if Bob does not take the meds or shots, his family feels like he is being reckless. Afterall, it is asking a lot to believe that FO/CC can be more effective than the doctor's high-priced pharma-brews. Also, the doctors never send you home to die without a prescription. And regardless how poorly the patient is responding to the chemo and/or hormone thereapy, the doctor meerely says that it would be much worse without the meds. That's how the pressure works. Thanks for your reply. Just one thought. I sometimes think members of this group kind of "forget" how incredibly difficult it would be for most men to follow the kind of diets / lifestyle that so many here do. And your friend Bob's diet is one of the most rigorous I have seen; I really doubt that 1 man in a hundred could follow that diet. Both because most would find it extremely unappetizing, and also because it involves a fair amount of work (at least for those of us who don't have full time domestic servants). In addition I strongly suspect that Bob did quite a bit of research before developing his regimen which you have so graciously shared with us. Bob is doing far more than "just" taking a fo/cc mixture. My point is this: Bob is being anything but "reckless"; he is, in reality, working his a - - off trying to keep his PCa at bay; he is accepting responsibility for his fate - much more so than someone who just blindly accepts medications from physicians accompanied by support from public opinion (that's the easy way). And maybe if his family had a better grasp of just how extraordinary his efforts are to remain among them, they just might provide a bit more support. I wish him the best; please keep us informed as to how he does. michael ----- Original Message -----

Actually, Bob does not find his diet "unappetizing." During his visit in June, we pretty much shared the same diet, although I only take 1/3 of the FO/CC, as I take it propholacticaly, having no cancer that I am aware of. Bob does feel that it is his diet that is keeping him alive, and he is quite faithful in following it. His biggest sacrifice has been the elimination of ice cream. He used to eat about a pint a day, and he still misses that. He has commented that he doesn't think he could add one additional thing to his diet, and the meaning I take from that comment is that what he is doing is about the maximum he would be willing to do. But as someone who shared 5 days of his routine with him, I did not find it "too much," and his health and vitality were exceptional for someone of his age, regardless of the cancer. And regarding his age, I had always thought we were the same age (66), but he recently sent me a copy of his oncologist's report following his recent bone scans, and I noticed that the report showed him to be 67. I spoke with him by phone this morning, and he is still feeling great, dancing at least twice a week, doing his normal chores, and riding his bicycle. He only wishes he had learned of Dr. Budwig sooner. Bob should be joining the group sometime soon, as he now has his first computer and is in the process of getting internet access.
