Fall vinyl - available now - Eastern Long Island
2
A couple of years back my son went into a store (The Times Vintage) in Greenport, eastern end of Long Island, that sells vinyl & vintage gear. Good son that he is, he asked the gentleman running the establishment if he had any Fall in stock with a view to surprising me for my birthday. He did not, my son settled for Murder Ballads. The owner, not being familiar, did some on the spot research and decided he should get some Fall in, feeling perhaps that the young people of Long Island were clamoring for the sounds of the Mighty Fall. Sadly not. I've been back there several times, most recently this Sunday, I believe he still has the same stock as he originally ordered. I feel sorry for him and a bit guilty, though not guilty enough to buy yet another copy of TNSG. So, should any of you or your kith and kin be in the Greenport area, please, stop by and take some Fall vinyl off his hands. GC

There's two mentions of the Fall in today's Observer "magazine" both indeed are smug, self-satisfied. Maybe. https://www.theguardian.com/food/2022/jul/24/sit-down-and-shut-up-my-lunchtime-ordeal-at-karens-diner?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other Nightingales mega fan Stuart Lee talks about the Tories being like the worst ever fall lineup (which of course doesn't exist) in a comedic article about Death Priests. BTW if you haven't seen Stuart lees film King Rocker about the Nightingales then you need to. It's the funniest band documentary ever. 'dum Get Outlook for Android

It's popular among fans of later-period Fall to use the term Look Back Bores* to dismiss those who prefer the good stuff - sorry, the earlier material. Can anyone suggest an appropriate Smith penned word or phrase that the LBBs might use to respond in kind? Pete * From It's A Curse

new BLUE ORCHIDS album "Angus Tempus Memoir"
2
BANDCAMP: https://blueorchids.bandcamp.com/album/angus-tempus-memoir Louder Than War review: Blue Orchids: Angus Tempus Memoir (Tiny Global Productions) Out 15 July 2022 Blue Orchids have released more new music in the last six years than in the whole of the thirty-five years prior to it ¨C the subtle originality of their sound permeates each of their releases, down primarily to original member Martin Bramah¡®s singular vision. The press release describes their music as intellectualised psychedelia. The new album is subtitled (souvenirs from the subconscious). Ged Babey attempts to expand his mind. Only a homing-pigeon can be trusted with freedom¡. Martin Bramah is one of those ¡®legends¡¯ & heroes who probably struggles to pay the bills. Despite being one of England¡¯s greatest songwriters he never had a Top Ten hit or got his music on an advert¡ he was in the business of expanding his consciousness and creating art and not the business-side of music. Martin is a fuckin¡¯ mystic. A seer & a soothsayer but a Dumb Magician. I asked him to tell me about the Angus Tempus Memoir album. Angus Tempus is a gentleman adventurer. A mystic. A free agent. This fragmented memoir recounts some of his escapades and significant moments in his self-willed career as a thorn in the side of ¡®The Cathedral¡¯. It was written in the aftermath of a devastating near defeat; as part of a process of mental recuperation. I only managed to read a few random pages that were gifted to me. No one has read the complete account to my knowledge. However, I browsed enough of the work to put together a collection of songs in tribute to this, until now, unsung hero that we all owe so much to. My intention with this album is to create a many faceted jewel that grows gradually in the listeners mind. Repeated plays will reward the connoisseur with an insight into this life well lived: this brave selfless loner that took on the might of an esoteric corporation. An organisation that operates outside of linear time; with the intent to build a throne of power that will span eternity. And this is the key to these adventures: that they take place in various epochs, shuffled randomly, like a deck of cards. The battlefield standing outside our own limited perception of time. So here¡¯s to Angus Tempus of the Joyous City ¨C hero of the ages! (c) Martin Bramah I thanked him for that beautiful piece of prose, written in the same style as many of the songs. ¡®That¡¯s an ¡®exclusive¡¯ just for you¡¯, he told me. Which made me feel guilty for thinking¡ ¡®You do a lotta acid Martin, back in the hippy days?¡¯ One of Bramah¡¯s oldest friends, Jim Donnelly, whom I only know from social media, told me confidentially.. I think this album is the album we intended to write when we used to sit in my mum¡¯s kitchen as teenagers, planning to be a rock n roll band. Then punk intervened. The Tiny Global Productions blurb includes this, with which I totally agree¡ The album recalls Blue Orchids¡¯ classic debut more than any other chapter of Bramah¡¯s catalogue. The lyrics were written in a freer verse than typical song lyrics allow, the music written later. John Paul Moran ¨C Bramah¡¯s longest-serving musical partner ¨C evokes the same eerie atmosphere from his keyboards as Una Baines did from hers years before, with new member Tansy McNally (ukulele) and rhythm section Vincent Hunt (bass) and Howard Jones (drums) holding it all together. Angus Tempus Memoir is Bramah¡¯s most beguiling work in decades I have reviewed all of the recent Blue Orchids albums. Always a pleasure and a privilege to hear them first. Looking at our joint back catalogue¡ Once and Future Thing (2016) I called Diaphanous and majestic¡ The Magical Record of the Blue Orchids (2019) ¨C A thing of many-splendored beauty. Speed the Day (2021): sparkling and imaginative, playful and clever, familiar but new. But a key observation, describing one song on Righteous Harmony Fist (2018) was Prog Rock on a garage rock budget ¨C but far better than that sounds. Arthurian and archaic language is used therein¡. Angus Tempus Memoir may well be the bands fu
