HOUSE Of ALL SOULS . . . with Karl Burns!

It may be the worst-kept secret in the Greater?Manchester music scene, but yes . . . Karl Burns has joined HOUSE Of ALL as their third drummer. And by that we mean the third all at once, not the third in a series of comings and goings!

Where's Karl been and what does this mean? We wish we could tell you, but it's more than a little mysterious even to?us. What it does mean is that on the next album, you'll?hear three separate drum combos:?the incredible?Hanley / Wolstencroft pairing, the return of the Wolstencroft /?Burns?combo?first heard on Middle Class Revolt, and of course some?Burns /?Hanley interplay as in the days of?Hex?Enduction Hour.

We bet you can't wait for the new album, so rather than taunt you with news of a future announcement, we're taking preorders for it today!?

HOUSE OF ALL SOULS is the name, and we maintain that,?without question?it's their most superb?long-player yet - ten new songs, several alternate universe hits and a few surprises!?The music feels more like a band than ever before, and we're rather amazed by it. Each?HOUSE Of ALL?regular member's?present, and in addition to the drummers,?that's?Martin, Pete and?Stephen, and Pete's live fill-in, Phil Lewis, adds guitar, too. (One of our favourite songs has a sensational part where Pete, Phil and Martin play different guitar lines at the same time . . .?pure ecstasy.)

HOUSE Of ALL?will be touring in Spring 2025, booked by Nightingales' own Fliss Kitson via Void Artists . . . watch for an announcement about that on Friday. We are offering a very limited edition translucent white vinyl version for early orders, so act now; we're also working on another surprise which will likely go along with that limited offering, too.

But that's only if you order from Bandcamp, though, so hop to it!

DA GOOGIE + CARA TIVEY!
My Bloody Valentine / Primal Scream / Billy Bragg
"Fancy putting out a record by Deb?from My Bloody Valentine?", Dave Callahan wrote. It'd be hard to say no to the illustrious bassist (who's also played with Primal Scream, Snowpony along with both Brix Smith and?Thurston Moore), but why doesn't she ask?Alan McGee or someone like that? Paint us suspicious!

We decided to have a listen first?and short answer? We have no idea. Her album, The Golden Thread, is an absolutely magical work,?credited as da Googie + Cara Tivey, the latter of whom, by the way, may be best known for her work with Billy Bragg, though there's a small thread of connection with TGP by virtue of her playing on Robert Lloyd of Nightingales' solo records. The first single, "Dumb", is an apt anthem for the current days, but a magical piece of art, with an equally?beguiling video. It's going to floor you . . . not exactly the?noisescape of My Bloody Valentine, but a bass-based cousin with?perfect open spaces, not exactly?shoegaze, but hazy and insidious in the best sort of way, with odd bits of Cara's piano casting a different light on it all, just when you thought you'd figured it out. Like all works of inspiration and genius, it's hard to pin down the?particulars of the album's magic, but we hope to have an answer by the next?newsletter!? We love it.

Sadly, we won't?officially announce?this wonder for another three weeks, but we do want you to know that there are two shows coming up before then (one with?da?Googie solo, the other in which she's joined by?Cara), which is your chance to hear some of the songs in advance, so check 'em out.

London, November 30 - Kings Place (da?Googie + Cara Tivey)

Birkenhead, Friday?December 6 - Future Yard (da Googie)

?
An improbable return . . .
. . . the genius of John McKay!
Autumn can be a cold, cruel and bitter month, as evidence of the horrendous floods in Valencia, which just barely missed the TGP headquarters. So there's something in our cold and bitter hearts (at the moment) which compels us to torment you with yet another pre-announcement of a release which should?have you salivating all the way to Christmas.

Siouxsie & the Banshees scored a massive?hit with "Hong Kong Garden"?soon?after signing with Polydor. Signed a bit late relative to other early punk bands, The Banshees' first two albums straddle a line between post-punk and something else entirely, and it's hard to gauge where such intensity would have led had it not been for one of rock's oddest break-up stories. In the middle of a tour and attending promotional campaign, guitarist John McKay - guitarist / saxophonist /?architect of the band's early recorded sound, and Kenny Morris, an oddly?perfect drummer, famous for a tom tom-driven style that eschewed cymbals almost entirely, walked out of a record shop?album signing appearance . . . and never returned.?

And?that was that. Robert Smith was drafted in as a temporary guitarist, and?Budgie?- fresh from The Slits - became the drummer, and this newer Banshees went on to enjoy great success, with a somewhat more pop sound.

But what happened to John McKay? It's a long story, though as fate would have it, he didn't just disappear, but instead had offers from several large labels to record demos?on their dime. Perhaps worried about how a guitarist of his stature could walk away from fame (and mass acclaim from fellow musicians), none of the labels bit. Aside from a single on Marc Riley's In Tape label nearly a decade later, McKay kept quiet.? Except . . . we're releasing an album of these absolutely fantastic unheard recordings.?Expect?an announcement soon, and watch the short video below, which we find greatly funny.

Butch Vig, Keanu Reeves, Fred Armisen and more . . .
We reissued the Pulsars' debut album a few months ago, and now a host of Hollywood bigwigs (and the robot, T-9000) have gotten together to celebrate the return of the album. It's an amusing video, so have a go.

You have to give Keanu Reeves some credit for being a fan of the label's?roster, if you can recall his picture excitedly holding up his long-awaited expanded 2xCD copy of Blue Orchids' 'The Greatest Hit (Money Mountain)' reissue, and now this!

- Not that this new track exactly shows off KKBurns's primal rhythmic bashing at all, disappointingly..?
