¿ªÔÆÌåÓýNo not the Iggy Pop song but this: ?
? I saw this band once at the same event where erstwhile list member Guy Jackson got bottled off stage. (Poor old Guy.) ? Guess what? ? The band were utterly dreadful, nothing as good as the above single. ? I did a Marc Riley and nipped out for some chips. The class of act that I missed wasn¡¯t in the same league as Dr Riley¡¯s though. ? Speaking of utterly dreadful records, anybody know this: ? ??????????????? ? Peel played it a couple of times and I thought it was awful, but strangely alluring. ? I had a mate who was in a teenage covers band called The Seedy Gees who released a record ? ??????????????? ? He had a box of his singles which I was leafing through one day. Imagine my surprise when I came across a copy of the Balloons single that ended up in his box. As you can see, the labels are almost identical! ? Lucky old me! ? I actually quite like The Balloons single now. It is ruddy queer to use a Partridgism and also is the only single that I haven¡¯t found on you tube. ? That¡¯s my daily story, now it¡¯s time for you lot to amuse me. ? Adam ? PS Anybody invited Guy Jackson back? Last I heard he was in Barcelona. ? ? |

tasteless judgemental humans. Speaking of "awful, but strangely alluring", I regularly get a song stuck in my head - I'm pretty sure that Pete introduced me to the band. I know the song's called Nature, but that's all I've got. There's some high-pitched caterwauling, some fairly shambolic vocals and a really really catchy section of tune. It goes like this bom bom bom, bom-ba-bom-ba-bom, da-da-doo-doo da-da-doo-doo. Anyway, I love it, but I can't remember for the life of me. Pete? PETE!? Oh, why won't he answer? Speaking of songs stuck in one's head for years and years... I often have had this tune stuck in my head, a tune that has some added kiddie lyrics about a little goat... Basically, some "real" song with some added joke/jingle lyrics that we thought were funny when we were kids (all this in Greek). It goes like this: aba-ni-bi-ah-ba-ni-beh---to katsikaki kanei behhh (translation:"aba-ni-bi-ah-ba-ni-beh---the little goat goes "beeeh").? So I googled it, in Greek characters, about a month ago (after decades of singing it at random moments, without having a clue as to the origin) ?"¦Á ¦Ì¦Ð¦Á ¦Í¦É ¦Ì¦Ð¦É ¦Á ¦Ì¦Ð¦Á ¦Í¦É ¦Ì¦Ð¦Å" And what do I find????!!!! it is the 1978 Eurovision entry of Israel (and winner of the contest): I don't know what amazed me more: how old the origins of that melody embedded in my brain is, or the fact that I put the query?in Google (which makes zero sense in Greek, it's just meaningless syllables) and it found it immediately... Nature Is The Most Boring Mystery', by Bird Names! I found it on an MP3 blog called... I can't remember what it was called but it had "Sheep" in the name and was run by someone in Toronto. I still have the mp3 so lemme know if you want a copy.? It's hard to find online; it was one of the band's first tracks and only released on a CDr: Their first 'proper' album is nearest in sound/spirit, except maybe *more* lo-fi.? Excerpts here: Pretty much everything else by the band (now defunct) is on Bandcamp: 'Open Relationship' is their TNSG, 'Wooden Lake/Sexual Diner' is their Dragnet. Pete |
