Hi,
I just drafted this letter to send to Premier Higgs. What do you think of it? Would you make any changes? If you like it, do you want to be a signatory to it? I think it may have more impact as a group letter.
Dear Mr. Higgs, Congratulations on winning a majority with less than 40% of the vote. I'm sure you will enjoy doing whatever you want for the next four years, after which voters will be so fed up that they'll give the Liberals a majority government with 42% of the vote. But you have the power to stop that from happening. You can implement proportional representation (PR). PR is, after all, an idea embraced by your own party. Under Bernard Lord, the PCs commissioned a study of electoral reform. The commission issued a report recommending a mixed member proportional system. But the Lord government did not have a chance to implement that system before they were voted out again. Better late than never. Wouldn't it be satisfying to close the door on that impending Liberal majority government? And what a legacy it would leave you. Being the first Premier to call an election during a pandemic certainly made you stand out, but not in a positive way. Imagine being the first leader at any level of government in Canada to implement proportional representation. That would meke your legacy truly special. I recommend acting on this as quickly as possible. Elections NB may need a couple of years to implement the new system. It wouldn't do to leave it too long and run out of time, the way that Bernard Lord did. Thank you for your time and consideration.

I like it a lot.? Perhaps soften the sarcasm in the beginning, if you are writing on behalf of Fair Vote NB, but if it's just on your behalf, well, it rocks!

Thanks Andrea. I've got two co-signers so far, yay. :-)
I can see Patti's point though. What do you all think of this alternate beginning: "Congratulations on your election win. For the next four years, you'll have the power to do whatever you want..." etc. Would you be willing to sign that, Patti?

I like that wording better - it's more neutral.
