Subject: Will you succeed where Premier Lord failed? Dear Mr. Higgs, Congratulations on your election win. For the next four years, you'll have the power to do whatever you want, after which voters will be so fed up that they'll give the Liberals a false majority government with 42% of the vote. But you have the power to stop that from happening. You can implement proportional representation (PR). PR is, after all, an idea embraced by your own party. Under Bernard Lord, the PCs commissioned a study of electoral reform. The commission issued a report recommending a mixed member proportional system. But the Lord government did not have a chance to implement that system before they were voted out again. Indeed, had he implemented the new system in time, he would not have lost the next election to the Liberals. Better late than never. Wouldn't it be satisfying to close the door on that impending Liberal majority government? And what a legacy it would leave you. Being the first Premier to call an election during a pandemic certainly made you stand out, but not in a positive way. Imagine being the first leader at any level of government in Canada to implement proportional representation. That would make your legacy truly special. I recommend acting on this as quickly as possible. Elections NB may need a couple of years to implement the new system. It wouldn't do to leave it too long and run out of time, the way that Bernard Lord did. Thank you for your time and consideration.
