To All, DeWitt Hodge has forwarded this email to me about flight training. It looks like a good inexpensive way to acquire some flight training that is safe and can be entered in your logbook. Hodge Flight services is located on the west side of Buchanan Field. Ron Lem President EAA 393 Begin forwarded message: From: DeWitt Hodge <hodgeflightservices@...> Subject: Fwd: Awesome pilot training you will enjoy Date: July 17, 2020 at 1:56:27 PM PDT To: "R66rc-mdpa@..." <R66rc-mdpa@...>, "mauricegunderson@..." <mauricegunderson@...>, "rmickels@..." <rmickels@...>, "rjlbap@..." <rjlbap@...> Afternoon All, Attached is an announcement just sent to my customers regarding a special pilot training opportunity being offered by the EAA Pilot Proficiency Center during the Spirit of Aviation Week.. My apologies for the short notice. I was just made aware of this event Wednesday, and the logistics to enable use of my company's flight simulator to support the remote training were just finalized. You may want to sign up for a mission, and/or know other pilots who would be interested. So, please feel free to forward this information to anyone who might want to participate. Cheers! DeWitt ---------- Original Message ---------- From: DeWitt Hodge <hodgeflightservices@...> To: Date: 07/17/2020 1:31 PM Subject: Awesome pilot training you will enjoy Greetings from Hodge Flight Services, EAA AirVenture 2020 is officially canceled. However, the EAA Pilot Proficiency Center team has come up with an innovative way to provide some very cool and fun remote flight instruction opportunities. During the Spirit of Aviation Week from Tuesday, 7/21 to Saturday, 7/25, you can participate in ¡°Remote Scenario-Based Simulation Training¡± using the Redbird flight simulator at Hodge Flight Services, home based at Buchanan Field (KCCR). There are (13) missions to choose from. Five of the missions are flight scenarios designed to challenge your judgement and reaction to unexpected events. Eight are specific flight exercises that involve more CFI instruction. Each mission has a software component already loaded onto the flight simulator that defines your starting location, weather conditions, and any aircraft system status changes that may occur during the flight. There is also a companion PDF document you can download that details the mission. There are (6) 90 minutes session slots available each of the (5) days. Each session includes flying the mission and a debriefing with the flight instructor using data collected and processed by CloudAhoy. The CloudAhoy flight data captured and displayed is amazing. You will also be able to use your own device running ForeFlight if you wish. Click here https://www.communityaviation.com/app/soaw-2020-center?id=rec9ojG8A5mZ7RUnQ to learn more about each of the (13) missions and reserve your session slot. Make sure to first review and pick the mission you want to fly by scrolling down to the Mission section of the page. Then, using the calendar window, select the desired date (between 7/21 & 7/25) and time slot. You will then be prompted to enter your name, email address, and selected mission. Once you have registered you will receive more information about preparing for your session. This is a special training event, open to all pilots regardless of status. The total cost to you is only $25. No need to be a Hodge Flight Services customers. So, tell a friend. Cheers! DeWitt Hodge Hodge Flight Services 925-448-7378

EAA393 June President's Message (Corrected)
To All, please disregard the previous message sent out this evening, this is the corrected message; EAA 393 President¡¯s Message June 4th, 2020 Greetings to All To my fellow aviation enthusiasts, it is only appropriate to acknowledge the new crisis affecting our country today. The murder of a black man by a white man while under the color of the police uniform. This has led to peaceful protests, anarchy and looting. For the last couple of nights, I have been sitting in my backyard listening to gunshots, explosions and sirens. I find it to be unsettling to say the least. Combining that with the COVID-19 pandemic which is ongoing and I feel like a fighter who has taken a one two punch. I want to punch back by doing something positive, but find my hands tied in many ways. For example: Our chapter continues to be adversely affected by the pandemic; the June Young Eagles event has been canceled. It is very unlikely that we will have any in person social activities in the month of June. This is of course by necessity as the county shelter in place order is still in effect. This morning I spoke with Airport Management and they still have to establish and distribute guidelines for groups such as ours before we can use the clubhouse. Judy with airport management could not give me a timeline. Unless that changes the General Meeting in June will be via Zoom. More about this later. I think that takes care of the items that I wanted to share with you that are beyond my control. Am I frustrated? Yes, Discouraged? No. Determined? Yes! So, lets get on to business. The June EAA 393 Board meeting was held via Zoom, with the following members present: Ron Lem, Mike Cunningham, Harvard Holmes, Pete Mitchell, Stephan Tucker, Rose Desmond, Rene Robinson, Tracy Peters, Bill O¡¯Brian, Lucy Hart, Greg K and after a long absence, Dick Sperling and his wife Marilyn. According to our treasurer, Harvard Holmes, our chapter is in sound financial condition. That being said, we have been experiencing a negative cash flow since the start of the pandemic. More about this later when I get to the fundraising part on the message. Pete Mitchell reports that we now have 91 members of which 80 have paid their dues. That means eleven have not paid dues. If you fall in this latter category, please pay your dues. The dues are $30 to the chapter and $40 to national. If you have a family chapter membership, it¡¯s $40 to the chapter and $40 to national. Please make your chapter dues checks out to: EAA Chapter 393. The mailing address is PO Box 6524 Concord CA 94524-1524. Thank you in advance for taking care of this detail. Discussions continue regarding new Google Chromebooks computers for the Young Eagles Program. Tracy Peters has significant experience in this area and will be putting together a presentation to demonstrate the ability of the chrome books to handle the Young Eagle registration program. The chapter is hoping that we will be able to hold a Young Eagles event in July, but that remains to be seen. Bill O¡¯Brian who has been doing a wonderful job on the newsletter will be adding your pictures if you send them to him. Send your pictures as a response to this email and I will forward them to Bill. Lucy Hart was present to discuss fund raising issues and it was suggested that because we can¡¯t meet as a group, we could send out a request to the membership asking for donations. That suggestion was discussed, motioned, seconded and passed. We will be sending out an email asking for donations to the chapter. A notice will also be posted in the newsletter reaching out to those who do not accept emails from the chapter. That number (those not receiving emails) borders on 40%. I can¡¯t explain it. Lucy has completed her ground school and is exploring ways to start her pilot training. I wish her good luck in her continuing endeavor! The VMC Club continues to be an effective format for discussion relating to pilot training and safety. Greg K our moderator for the VMC Club has done an outstanding job. Another VMC discussion is planned for the June general meeting. Vice P

AirMail100 Centennial Flights Project: Segments By Pilots/Planes (Spreadsheet)
To All, This event will take place from September 11th, through the 13th with the final stop being Buchannan Field. PSA will be hosting the event at their FBO, Stephen Tucker is the contact person for this event. Ron Lem President, EAA Chapter 393 Begin forwarded message: From: BMoore <evworldeditor@...> Subject: AirMail100 Centennial Flights Project: Segments By Pilots/Planes (Spreadsheet) Date: May 14, 2020 at 10:58:08 AM PDT To: BMoore <evworldeditor@...> Greetings from Omaha! As the contact person for your EAA chapter, I wanted to share with you the most recent spreadsheet listing the pilots and planes that have volunteered to fly one or more of the segments of the AirMail100 Centennial Flights project from New York to San Francisco. As you can see, we currently have 10 pilots signed up fly 7 of the 15 segments. Back in early March, it appeared that we tentatively had most, if not all, of the segments covered, then the pandemic locked down most the world¡¯s economy, including here in America. Since the planned flight date is now just four months away, I want to firm up the list of volunteers and aircraft. To do that, I need your help. Could you continue to share the project with your members and if one or more pilots want to participate, ask them to sign up on the AirMail100 website. Here is the link: http://airmail100.com/pilots.php The form takes maybe a minute to complete. We ask for the pilot¡¯s name, the aircraft make and model they plan to fly, plus its N-number. We ask for their email, cellphone, and city of residence and EAA chapter. They then select the segment they would be willing to fly, as well as their willingness to share any photos and/or videos they may take during the flight. We¡¯ve tried to include as much flight planning information on the website as possible, including sectionals and where available, airfield diagrams or Google satellite-based views. http://airmail100.com/airfields.html The proposed flight schedule is here: http://airmail100.com/images/AirMail100_Schedule_18Mar2019.jpg Thank you for your attention and, hopefully, assistance in helping make possible this tribute to the aviators that proceeded us and helped make flying a safe and joyous experience for us all.
