Unusual motor on a TL electrical shop repair lathe
Hi guys.??
So a few years ago I picked up a second TL Dalton.? This one was unlike my first one or the pattern makers lathe.? First off the lathe had a double gear reduction overhead drive so the lathe only turns about 450 rpm. Second it does not have the pattern makers spindle nose that is 1 1/2 - 8 rather this lathe has the 1 1/4 - 12 spindle nose.? The lathe came with a face plate a dead center for the spindle and a Jacobs generator chuck for the tail stock.? It also came with one tool holder and a lathe dog.? The lathe though in just wonderful condition was covered with copper shavings.? It was obvious to me that the lathe had been used to turn commutators on generator and starter motors for the auto industry as well as maybe the repair of old induction run repulsion start electric motors.? These motors are equipped with? a commutator and brushes like a DC motor though they are AC.? So one other thing was really unusual and that was the motor that was installed on the over head drive.? This motor is built unlike any motor I have ever seen.? This motor is equipped with a centrifugal clutch on the motor shaft.? The armature spins freely on the motor shaft and the armature has a centrifugal clutch and the motor shaft has a clutch drum.? The motor runs really well and it will spin up about one third of its rated rpm before the clutch engages the shaft.? I think this motor was used to start heavy loads.? Take a look at the pictures as this is a most interesting Dalton lathe.? Dennis ![]()

Spindle nose thread protector
Hi guys.? Sorry been off line for so long.? I have a new email address and now can read as well as post to the Dalton sight.? I see questions about thread protectors.? I still have a large quantity of spindle nose thread protectors I made up some years ago. These are for the 1 1/4- 12 spindle on the Lot 2 3 4 and 5 lathes as well as the Dalton TL that has the same spindle nose.? These TL models are kind of rare as they were marketed as electrical shop lathes and as such had the 1 1/4 - 12 spindle rather than the more common 1 1/2 - 8 we usually see on the TL pattern makers lathe.? $15 and shipping if interested.? The picture shows an original Dalton thread protector and the ones I made are exact copies though made of Aluminum and black anodized were as the originals were cast iron.? The second picture shows an original and also one I made.? ?You can email me at dennisturk448@...???

Daron Websters Dalton Six photos
Take a look at the photos Daron posted in our photos section yesterday. Photo # 5600 shows the compound tool post mount at what appears to be a 30¡ã rotation from the cross feed? ways, in the casting itself. Are these common in the Dalton Six?? Just curious, as I'd not seen this before. He told me that it appears to be a factory unit.
Dennis? Glen? Have you guys seen these?? Thanks, Dan |

Here is one example. ? I also got several hefty?nutes with the correct thread.? They have the advantage that they are carbon steel, so they can be easily machined.? Just search 1 1/4 12 coupler? John On Sat, Oct 29, 2022 at 7:05 AM flhd1340 via <flhd1340=[email protected]> wrote:
