Re: WAC report

The WAC progress report now considers QSOs confirmed by QSL cards and QSOs confirmed via LotW. A QSO confirmed via QSL card doesn't actually "count" until it's submitted to and verified by the ARRL. Similarly, a QSO confirmed via LotW doesn't actually "count" until its submitted to and verified by the ARRL.

Said another way, a QSO confirmed via LotW will "count" towards WAC after its been submitted to and approved by the DXCC desk. Thus it should appear in the WAC progress report.

Thanks, Art. In the next version of DXKeeper, the WAC Progress Report
counts
LotW confirmations.
All LotW confirmations or only those set to "V"? Seems like counting all
LotW confirmations would yield incorrect WAC totals if the LotW confirmation
has not been submitted and added to DXCC credit.

That's correct: if you define an override, SpotCollector will take the station's location from the override's grid square; if no grid square is specified in the override, then SpotCollector can't compute an azimuth unless the grid square is specified in spot notes and you've configured SpotCollector to extract grid squares from spot notes.
I am a little confused, as I have never had to populate any other boxes in the overrides panel to get the correct info.
For example, I have VR10 mapped to Hong Kong, but no other boxes are filled in, and any VR10 calls were correctly mapped.

Does the VR10 spot database entry specify a DX grid square? If this is not specified in your VR10 override, then it must have been provided in spot notes, or perhaps by a cluster configured to append the grid square to the spot notes.

DXKeeper cannot directly import an Excel spreadsheet, but it can import a comma-delimited file that conforms to a specific set of rules, as described in

In general, you can produce generate this comma-delimited file from your Excel spreadsheet by adding a new worksheet and populating it with formulae that put the data in the required format. If you need help with this, please let me know.

Re: eXcel to DXKeeper

Yes, but you have to do a little work to convert your spreadsheet data to ADIF. The following is a good place to start and this is posted in the FAQ section of eQSL.cc under the general questions category.

Rich VE3IAY has provided a straightforward approach to generating ADIF from Microsoft Works 97, Lotus 123 v.5 and Microsoft Excel 2002 spreadsheets. It's likely that the same approach can be adapted to other spreadsheet programs or versions. See:

<>

A sample Excel spreadsheet is available from

Before attempting to use this approach be sure to have a good understanding of ADIF fromat.

A copy of the current ADIF standard specification is available at

I have set up a slider for the Audio on my K3.
This morning I had the AF knob all the way counter clockwise, no audio.
I was doing some other operation on the computer so DXLab wasn't running.
When I started DXLab via the Launcher, the audio came on.
Bad Time I was on the phone. I could hear the party I was talking to.
Went too turn the volume down, it was off.
After several attempts to figure out what was going on, I figured out that the radio's audio will be set to the volume in the slider when Commander starts up.

Is it possible to let the audio control alone on start up?

My daughter passed her Tech and got her call yesterday!

Congratulations to both of you!

I would like to set up a fresh log for her in dxlab so we can track her
awards, progress, etc, and 'do something' when it starts so we can pick the
log to work in - hers or mine.

You can create an empty new log for Olivia using the "Log file" panel at
the top of Config window's Log tab. If the pathname for your log file shown
in this panel is

C:\Program Files\DXLab Suite\DXKeeper\Logs\N8WRL.mdb

change this to

C:\Program Files\DXLab Suite\DXKeeper\Logs\KJ4OTY.mdb

and then click the Create button. DXKeeper will create an empty new log, and
open it. To switch back to your log, Brian, you'd click the "Log file"
panel's Select button and double-click N8WRL.mdb in the "select existing
log" window.

At minimum, you'll also need to change the default "Station callsign"
(Config window, Defaults tab) whenever you change operators so that the
correct station callsign will be recorded with each QSO. If you don't mind
sharing the rest of the settings, this will be the fastest approach. If
you'd like to maintain separate settings, you could either direct the
Launcher to setup a pair of Workspaces, save your settings to your
Workspace, and then after Olivia establishes her settings save those to her
Workspace. Switching operators would then entail terminating all DXLab
applications except the Launcher, switching workspaces, and then restarting
your DXLab applications. Alternatively, you could create a separate Windows
user for Olivia, and switch Windows users whenever you switch operators.

I spent some quality time searching this group and the docs to no avail. Any
hints?

I got two workspaces set up and it is 95% perfect. The only annoyance I have now I think is Vista's fault - switching between workspaces brings up a bunch of UAC nonsense-popups when dxlab updates the registry. But win7 is supposed to be better and I can put up with this for now.

The frustrating part is that the behavior is intermittent. This morning as I was checking the settings per your request, I could rapidly QSY with no disappearing calls and yet, last evening, if I were to move the dial only slightly they were gone! I've opened a bunch of programs including my virus scanner to load the CPU and it is currently behaving as it should. Occasionally, when I spin the dial, the marker on the Bandspread window doesn't keep up but rather lags behind in updating. The more I think about this, I'm beginning to think that the problem may well be with the video card.

What is the best guess for the cause of the calls on the bandspread dial
of Commander disappearing as I tune up or down the band? Insufficient
memory or insufficient computer power? I'm running a 3 GHz P4 with 1
Gig of memory (2 x 512MB) on my DXLab computer.

From looking at the Windows Task Manager window, the CPU usage
increases rather dramatically when tuning and the memory usage stays
fairly constant which probably answers the question for me. :-)
Still, I wonder if others with similar computers notice the calls
disappear as they tune and reappear when you stop. More to the point,
do those of you running duo or quad core Intel computers notice the same
thing.

Re: Two (or more) users/logs?

Note that if you create separate windows logins for each user then each will have his own log file and DXLab options when logged on to the appropriate account. This is because DXLab keeps all of it's settings under the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Thus, each user has his/her own copy of the CURRENT_USER registry settings. Note that this will not work with Vista if you have installed the DXLab programs on "Program Files" because in order for DXLab to work properly in that case you are required to log on to the one account named "Administration". But it should work fine with Windows XP and also the upcoming Windows 7.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, that answers it fully. Actually, I think I tried going that route for a while, it turned out to be easier to keep the station log rather than switching logs each time, and then having to switch all the operator information, especially in the online qsl page. After uploading my logs to Brittanys eqsl and such, lotw is a bit harder to cross pollinate, I've relegated to usually export an adif based on op callsign and use the web to upload the adif and other files. Sometimes I go in and change the qsl info, but it's just too much effort and error prone.

I like the idea of having separate windows users and the settings for each, but that doesn't work out too well when three or four of us are chasing dx or a rare country or something like that. We all take a turn making the contact "for the log". What it seems we need is a way to setup multiple logs, with multiple user settings, and a button or tab to switch between them quickly and easily.

Dave and the group,

OK, I deleted JD1BMM from the overrides box, and re-entered it.
However, it still won't come up with a heading in SC unless I enter the grid and zones, etc.

I am a little confused, as I have never had to populate any other boxes in the overrides panel to get the correct info.
For example, I have VR10 mapped to Hong Kong, but no other boxes are filled in, and any VR10 calls were correctly mapped.

I've just played around with JD1O and JD1M in DXV, and those calls correctly show the entity, but JD1BMM will not, unless the overrides panel has the grid and zones specified.

I do now have it working, and you are probably correct in your assumption that it has been there for a while now, possibly before several upgrades.

Thanks again for the help,

All LotW confirmations or only those set to "V"? Seems like counting all
