Hi Dave---It is configured Parallel Port (LPT3 Data 5 pin 7)

With that setting, Windows is generating the CW timing. Unfortunately,
Windows is not a real-time operating system, so even though WinWarbler runs
its CW-generation at the highest possible priority, simply moving your mouse
while transmitting CW can yield erratic timing. If you have other
applications simultaneously running, or if your PC is light on horsepower
and/or RAM, these factors can contribute to the problem. Minimizing the load
on your CPU and RAM while working CW is the least expensive approach.
Another approach is to acquire a WinKey -- a small hardware device that
accepts characters from WinWarbler and does the CW generation. You can build
a WinKey serial port kit for as little as $36 (see
<>) or you can purchase a fancier USB
kit for about double that price (see <>).
Several commercial products also incorporate WinKey circuits, e.g.
MicroHam's product line (see
<>). WinWarbler can also use a
KAM, PSK232, or MFJ HF modem as a CW generator; these are often
inexpensively available via flea markets or EBay (e.g. see
<
QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item19b622795e&_trksid=p3286.c0.m

Re: DX Keeper Config. Application Pages

Hi Mike,

I take it from your description that you are using WinWarlber to generate CW rather than an external keyer such as the WinKey. Unfortunately, code generated by WinWarblerr is subject to CPU load and your computer's ability to handle it without encountering any processing delays. It sounds like your Laptop isn't quite up to the task and occasionally experiences a load that causes slight delays.

I highly recommend the WinKey (www.k1el.com). This is supported by WinWarbler and generates it's own CW from the ASCII characters. Thus, it does not depend on your computers CPU to generate properly spaced dits and dahs. It's a relatively inexpensive kit that goes together in a couple of hours. The USB version has a built in USB to serial port converter and comes with the USB driver on CD that works with any version of Windows including the soon to be released Windows 7. From the day you plug that in and start using it, your CW will be squeaky clean no matter which computer is feeding it and no matter if you are using macros, keyboard or paddles.

To recover your wayward Configuration window, see

Uninstalling and re-installing a DXLab application almost never resolves the underlying problem, but can destroy useful evidence and risks confusing Windows.

Re: Erratic function of Commander 5.8.7

I agree with Rich that you should upgrade to the latest release of Commander, but I doubt it will resolve the problem. You report that Commander was successfully controlling your transceiver, but that over time its ability to control your transceiver degraded. This in combination to the details you cite below points to change in your PC, most likely in the operating system configuration or perhaps in the serial port driver.

On what version of Windows are you running?

Is your FT897 connected to a serial port, or to a USB-to-serial adpator?

Now every time when I start the program it shows a dialogue with the following text:

"aborting device data load operation - missing or invalid frquency: 11 -elo 2009 11:58:36> CI-V Commander version 5.8.7"

The error log from the same time shows the following:

Re: Pathfinder will not auto populate WW Name & QTH details.

WinWarbler cannot use QRZ.com as a callbook unless both DXKeeper and Pathfinder are running, and the Callbook tab of DXKeeper's Config window is configured for "QRZ.com via Pathfinder".

As a result of changes to QRZ.com last week, the QRZ.com URL on Pathfinder's Config window must be set to

{TargetCallsign}

I'm currently running with PF 4.5.7 and WW 6.4.8 and I have run into an issue where upon hitting return from entering a callsign in WW Call Box, the program will not auto populate the name and QTH details from the QRZ lookup performed by Pathfinder. Manually looking at the PF results box, the lookup has been performed without error on QRZ.com. I have seen several references to this in other posts, but am I missing something common in the set up, since the last improvements to DXLab?

QRZ.com changed their display format a few days ago. Pathfinder 4.5.7 compensates for this change, and was released within hours. What release of Pathfinder are you running?

Re: Erratic function of Commander 5.8.7

The problem you describe is not a familiar one but the latest version of Commander is 7.9.2. The version 5.8.7 you have is a couple of years and two major revisions out of date. So, first get the current version installed and then if you still have a problem Dave can begin trying to track it down. No sense trying to track down a problem in ancient code!

Hi Tony,
That would be a very useful resource.
I have to confess that my knowledge of SQL is not very good & it would be very useful
to be able to refer to an index rather than keep asking for help.
I am sure that many of the requests are duplicated.
