Complete DX Lab Uninstall for clean re-install?
I messed up and installed DXLab Suite on a Vista 64 box using my regular account insteasd of the administrator account.
I used the Windows remove program which only removed some of the program files so I also deleted the DXlab folder and all subdir and files. All the visible DXlabfiles should have been in there. I then logged into the administrator account and reloaded launcher from the web site. Launcher showed a new install for all the programs except commander and spot collector which would indicate too me that there is another config file or something that gets installed somewhere other than in the indicated directories when the suite is installed and doesn't get removed using Windows program manager. Any ideas of how to get commander and spot collector to install? Second issue: I exported all my log to a DBase file but when I go into DX keeper the import start button is not lit. I recall having this happen before but for the life of me I cannot recall the solution I found. Thanks in advance Rick-KT9B |

You can emulate this at any time by depressing the CTRL key while clicking "Sync LotW QSOs" or "Sync LotW QSLs"; these operations can take awhile (depending upon how many QSOs you've uploaded and how many QSLs have been generated in your LotW account) and should not be necessary, but... 73, Dave, AA6YQ -----Original Message-----

For "interactive" programs, that means clicking the red X button inOnce a program is running, it should ideally be shut down in an orderly the upper-right corner, finding and executing a "shutdown" menu entry (e.g. File:Exit), or in the case of DXLab applications, by directing the Launcher to send a message directing them to terminate. For a service that Windows is running in the background, you can terminate it in an orderly fashion by running the Services manager (Windows Control panel, Administrative Tools), right-clicking the service of interest, and selecting the Stop menu item. process by right clicking the process and selecting the "End Process" item,You can use the Windows Task Manager to immediately terminate any running but the shutdown will not be "orderly", and so can have negative consequences. Its not always obvious what process name is associated with the application you're trying to terminate; Google likely-looking process names until you find the right one (measure twice, cut once!). in an orderly manner. Somewhat more challenging is to discover what programsIf you know what programs you've started, its generally easy to stop them and services Windows has started on its own. Directing Windows to run MSCONFIG will start the "System Configuration Utility", whose Startup tab displays a list of all programs that Windows is automatically starting. Each entry includes a (possibly cryptic) "Startup Item", the command used to start the program, and the "location" responsible for the startup; the location will either be a pathname in the Windows Registry, or the words "Common Startup". Unchecking the box to the left of the "Startup Item" will prevent that item from being started the next time you boot Windows. The System Configuration Utility's Services tab provides a similar list of Services; unchecking the box to the left of a Service will prevent that Service from being started the next time you boot Windows. one or more programs or services and then terminate the System ConfigurationWhen you use the System Configuration Utility to disable the startup of Utility, it informs you that "you must restart your compute for some of the changes made by System Configuration to take effect", and offers you the opportunity to Restart. You need to restart immediately, though the programs and services you disabled will continue to run until you reboot, or terminate them individually as described above. Each time you reboot Windows, you'll be informed that the System Configuration Utility is preventing certain applications and services from running. The only way to eliminate this nuisance is to re-enable the disabled entries in the System Configuration Utility and then permanently disable them by deleting their entries in the Windows Registry or Startup Folder; the former is not recommended unless you are proficient with the Windows Registry Editor AND have taken the precaution of directing Windows to create a Restore Point beforehand. Once false move in the Windows Registry Editor can render your system unbootable. 73, Dave, AA6YQ |

A query about the WPX report
Phil Cooper
Hi again!
After checking my WAC tally, I also decided to check my WPX progress. After running the report, it produces a nice list of prefixes. My query is that it shows I have worked prefixes that I cannot find in my log! For example, it shows I have worked 1B0 and 1K0, but no such calls exist. I know I have the right SQL expression, as filtering for a known good call works OK - I used CY9. So, how come I end up with prefixes like 1B0 and 1K0 that are clearly not valid, and do not appear to be in my log? And one final thought........... Would it be useful to have a call (or calls??) listed for these prefixes in the WPX list? The WPX application form has to show call, date, time, band, mode etc, but the WPX report doesn't really provide this info. As I have over 1000 WPX's, it does get a little tiresome having to filter the log for each WPX, QSL received etc. 73 for now Phil GU0SUP --- avast! Antivirus: Outbound message clean. Re: WAC report
Phil Cooper
Hi all,
Larry W6NWS quoted the ARRL site................ "... At the present time credits in the ARRL LogBook of The World (LoTW) system cannot be claimed for WAC credit. Applicants who have a current DXCC award in the DXCC computer system can apply for WAC by completing the WAC application form and sending it to the address noted above, listing credits to be claimed on the application form. In this case QSL cards are not required. ...." I did find the above statement a little confusing at first, but it implies that LoTW credits that are now part of your DXCC claim CAN indeed be used. So, I thought I would do a search and see what I came up with. It took a while to get the proper SQL function, but I got there in the end. The confusing bit was having to remember to use both the LoTW QSL Received and also the QSL Received functions for all of S and V. But, after a few goes, I got it right, and found that I do indeed have enough DXCC credits to claim 5BWAC - all on RTTY. Another point for those wishing to check whether they have 5BWAC, you must also filter the log for each band as well as filtering for QSL's verified. I just entered the SQL expression in the ADV boxes, and then changed the band after each click of the WAC progress button. Save the resulting file as something like WAC-80m and you are away! 73 all, Phil GU0SUP --- avast! Antivirus: Outbound message clean. In DXView, look down toward the lower right-hand corner of the window, just above "DXCC" where it says "SC Lock." Click in the window to set "focus" on the DXView window and hover your mouse cursor over the button that says "SC Lock."

Just in case your "mouse cursor messages" are turned off, that button will "lock" DXView and temporarily ignore any incoming spots from SpotCollector - until you turn it off (actually, I guess you'll be turning it back on!) when you so choose - then SC will again change as spots arrive. Re: Erratic function of Commander 5.8.7
As you have discovered, you can't do that and have it work properly. If you uninstall Comander 5.8.7 (there is not normally any reason to do that), then you must reinstall Commander 5.8.7 before attempting to do any updates. You can't update something that isn't there. DXLab updates are not installs, they are just self extracting Zip files that do nothing but copy in new files to replace "existing" old ones.

When version 5.8.7 started creating problems I removed it using the same "Add/Remove Programs" and the program was removed correctly. After that I installed just 792Update (Zip file755kt) as such. When I unzipped that file, it created the same files as 5.8.7 without the actual set up. In other words it was ready after unzipping. But it behaved erratically. So I cleaned the registry from everything found with names "Commander" and "DXLab" After that unzipping 792Update I got a working Commander. But no entry of it in "Add/remove". I did not install DXLab Launcher at all so I cannot say anything about its main window. Maybe that was the reason to problems? Thanks for the link to the uninstallation program. Re: cba and qrz
Is this happening on every callsign or is it possible that the callsign you are trying to lookup really isn't in the QRZ.com database? All US and Canadian calls are in the QRZ.com database because they are copied from the FCC and RAC databases. However, calls for the rest of the world are entered by the callsign holders themselves so obviously they are not all there.

I'd been thinking about providing the option to automatically populate the QSL Queue with needed QSOs when generating a progress report for the other awards supported by DXKeeper; each of these reports lists "counters" for which there's a worked-but-unconfirmed QSO, so it would be straightforward to insert each worked-but-unconfirmed QSO into the QSL Queue rather than require the user to manually locate and add each unconfirmed QSO to the QSL Queue. The challenge is providing a way to let the user specify whether or not the QSL Queue should be populated with unconfirmed QSOs when generating a progress report -- without displaying an annoying prompt each time a progress report is generated, and without having the QSL Queue be unintentionally populated by subsequent progress reports because the user forgot to disable the option. Your request prompted me to think harder about this, and I came up with the idea of adding an "Add Unconfirmed to QSL Queue" checkbox in the lower-left corner of the Main window's "Check Progress" tab, as shown here: <> +++When you start DXKeeper, this box will be unchecked. If you check this box before initiating a progress report, then any QSOs identified as needed but unconfirmed in this report will be added to the QSL Queue -- and the box will automatically be unchecked after the report is generated. Thus anyone not interested in generating outgoing QSLs when running a progress report won't be bothered by this new capability; if you do want to generated needed QSLs, check the box before clicking the button to generate the progress report. +++I have constructed a new version of DXKeeper that implements this capability, but only for the VUCC progress report. I'll email it to you shortly, so you can give it a try. If it works out, I'll extend this capability to all the other progress reports that DXKeeper generates (except DXCC and WAZ). If anyone else would like to try this new version of DXKeeper, send email to me at aa6yq@... from an email account that will accept a zip archive containing an executable file as an attachment (e.g. not gmail). +++If you haven't generated labels before, Tad, you'll need to configure DXKeeper to correctly print the labels of your choice using the "QSL Labels" and "Envelopes" tabs on the "QSL Config" window. I suggest loading your printer with inexpensive paper while you do this. The procedure is described in < with Paper>, but don't hesitate to post any questions or concerns here. 73, Dave, AA6YQ |
