Re: Two 'spot' convenience wish list items for DXLabs

Dave, Although your approach might not necessarily be as fast as what
I am thinking about... and with my approach you wouldn't be disrupting
the view of new spots while going to an old one (not sure that would
matter)... you are very right that your take on it would undoubtedly
be far easier to incorporate... take less explaining, and with SQL
query features to boot! And in the long run fill the exact need.

Jerry, KG6TT

Your last sentence suggests an alternative solution that wouldn't
introduce a brand new mechanism for users to learn. Suppose I were to
add a new item to each Spot Database Entry called Watch, and there
were an easy way to quickly set an Entry's Watch item to Y or N (e.g.
via the right-mouse menu). If I then provided a Watch checkbox that
when checked instantly filtered the Spot Database Display to show
only entry's whose Watch item was set to Y, you'd be able to quickly
access those Entries so see, for example, whether any of them have
become workable. (The Main window's LotW checkbox works in a
comparable manner). Would this satisfy the need? One could also
create SQL queries that reference Watch, so for example you could
quickly ask to see all Watch entries on 6m.

Nope, you're two for two, Jerry!
1. Add a right-click on spot item that brings up an email form that is
populated with your return email, a subject identifying the callsign
of the spot target with UTC time/date appended. In the body of the
message include the entire spot detail. Optionally you might include a
config that would allow you to setup a particular email target(s) that
these emailed spots would to to. Now what would really be cool is if
this process could also be done through an instant messenger (IM). And
ultimate coolness would be if the recipient (either email or IM) also
used DXLabs suite and by clicking on the spot in the email/IM their
own copy of DXLabs would populate their Capture window and with
Commander set up their transceiver.

I know how to do this if you're using Microsoft Outlook (using
MAPI), but making it work with other mailers could be a challenge.
Anyone know if Windows provides a mailer-independent API?

Using instant messaging for tag-team DXing is a very interesting
suggestion, particularly since SpotCollector already can login to the
#CQDX IRC channel. Dianna KB6NAN and I used to chat there with a few
other DXers from time to time, but I rarely see anyone there in real-
time these days. SpotCollector could use #CQDX as a way to coordinate
between defined "teams" of DXers. I'll add this to its enhancement
list.

A number of my friends are also using DXLabs but rarely keep the
software running all the time (I must be crazy)... with this
functionality I can pass along the spot information quickly and
accurately.

Since my primary use of SpotCollector is to track operating
patterns of needed DX stations and locate secondary propagation
openings, I leave it running 24x7 too.

2. Add a volatile memory 'que' of a prior spot Capture/Commander
settings... In other words, say I click on a new spot... before this
new information over-writes what is already in the Capture, DXView
and Commander screens the old information is placed in a 'FIFO
settings buffer' with a visual screen reminder... say a small
floating button bar that uses the spot's callsign as the button
legends (or it couldbe a side bar of Spot Collector). This spot FIFO
memory que might even hold say the last six selected spots. Now when
you are done with the current spot (either you completed the contact
or you didn't) you can optionally click on one of the prior spots in
the spot que placing the spot you were just in at the top of the que
and moving the item you selected from the que back into Capture,
DXView and Commander.

Spot Collector is such a great tool but the listings can change so
rapidly and what you were looking at a few moments ago is now off the
screen altogether so you are spending critical time searching the spot
database rather than searching the airwaves.

Your last sentence suggests an alternative solution that wouldn't

Thank you Dave - That was what I was afraid of - I am trying to import the
Credit Matrix and compare it to the Awards Progress Panel - Nand they dont
match. So I filtered by QSL and LOTW verified and doing a summary that
way - using excel as an easy way to compare column by column. But I am
finding out that the listing of entities order in LOTW doesn't match the
order of entities in the summary...so I am having to reorganize the listing
in excel...a royal pain. But the quickest I can see of find what I didn't
mark V in my listings....

Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

Since there's no way to download your verified QSOs from your DXCC

process. All you can do is examine the "DXCC Awards Credit Listing"

Actually I don't think you can completely remove IE from your
system.
There have been huge lawsuits over that but Microsoft claims
it is
an
integral part of the system and cannot be removed.

With WinXP+ you can hide the IE desktop Icon and make another
browser
the default but you can't remove IE. Yes if you want to
download
IE 7
(It's a big improvement over IE 6 so I recommend you do that)
it
first gets a very small executable that I believe determines
what
parts of IE you need to download for your particular system
and
downloads only what you need. That works, and it minimizes
the
amount
of stuff you need to download. Why is that a problem?

Yeah. I had intended to set it back up so that I would have an automatic

to work, when I cant get it to operate on a manual lookup there.

Sitting here for three hours now, calling HK3O on 160meters. Dozens
calling, and he finishes a QSO and calls CQ. Its maddening. Absolutely the
best night down south for 160 I have seen. He is s7-9 , and half dozen PYs
calling him are in 55 plus, and I need both countries. Got my lil amp
