Notch Filter

 

I was wondering if WinWarbler had a selectable Notch
filter using the sound card. This would allow a strong
station within the PSK passband to be notched out.

I know I can use the optimize feature to center the received station in the radios filter and then can select
a narrow filter on my rig to eliminate other possible QRM.

With "set QSO start when RST Rcvd" unchecked, these are the actions that
will set a QSO's start time:

1. clicking the "QSO Info" panel's Begin button

2. striking ALT-B in the Main window

3. sending a macro that includes an <RSTsent> or tx_serial_number> command

Before I email you an instrumented version of WinWarbler to see what's
causing the QSO to be started when you double-click a spot database entry,
please reconfirm that the "set QSO start when RST Rcvd" option is disabled
on the Log tab of WinWarbler's Config window. Thanks...

The start tine appears in red font to the right of "QSO Info [Receive Pane
0]" in WW. It shows up immediately after double clicking a spot in SC to
populate WW.

I also noticed that I am getting a new QSO (all red) in DXK Log QSO's window
at the same time. However, it clears, removes itself, when I clear WW.

I have a Word document of screen shots that I can send direct if you wish.

I just clicked 3A2MD at 2045 and walked away from computer. I came back hit
my log macro F key and then looked in the DXK log file. The Q start time was
2045 and the Q end time was 2050.

Situation: Click on spot or find station in pile up and start entry (enter
call sign) in WW. I then use TAB to see if I should proceed with chasing the
station. The QSO Started At Date/Time appears in red above call sign in WW.

Rcvd" option means that a QSO's start time will be set when you specify its
"RST Rcvd" item, either by typing a report into the Main windows' "Log QSOs"
tab, or by double-clicking a received signal report.

On the Config window's Log tab, there is also an "initialize RST items to
default" option. If you enable this option and have also enabled "set QSO
start when RST Rcvd", then when you type a callsign into the "QSO Info"
window or double-click a decoded callsign

1. the "RST Rcvd" item is initialized to the default

2. the QSO's start time is set (because the "RST Rcvd" was recorded and you
have "set QSO start when RST Rcvd" enabled

When you started Pathfinder sometime over the past two weeks, it notified you that a new version of the QRZ search file was available; when you clicked its Update button, Pathfinder downloaded and installed this updated QRZ search file. This is the same search file that I and everyone else is successfully using to access QRZ.com via Pathfinder's QRZ search button.
Do any of Pathfinder's other search buttons work?

Furthermore, a change in the QRZ web site would not cause your Buckmaster Hamcall search to suddenly stop working. My suspicion is that your Firewall (or some other anti-malware application) is preventing Pathfinder from accessing the internet.

I disagree, Tom. Pathfinder is working correctly here. Furthermore, a change in the QRZ web site would not cause your Buckmaster Hamcall search to suddenly stop working. My suspicion is that your Firewall (or some other anti-malware application) is preventing Pathfinder from accessing the internet.

On the Pathfinder's Config window, change the QRZ URL to

{TargetCallsign}

What you have there now is incorrect, and is the reason DXKeeper cannot
access QRZ.com via Pathfinder.

PF windows :

I think a problem with data transmission from DXK to PF

I disagree, Tom. Pathfinder is working correctly here. Furthermore, a change in the QRZ web site would not cause your Buckmaster Hamcall search to suddenly stop working. My suspicion is that your Firewall (or some other anti-malware application) is preventing Pathfinder from accessing the internet.

That means that the Registry settings that the Launcher relies on to determine if these applications are installed indicate that these applications are installed.

That means that the "Program Path" you've specified for SpotCollector on the Launcher's Config window is invalid.

Your PC's Windows Registry is in an inconsistent state. You can try running the free-ware Revo un-installer, but at this point there can be no guarantees short of "re-install Windows" (which I am not suggesting or recommending).

Hopefully this is an anomaly and not a bug.

It is neither.
A "submission" is a set of QSOs whose "QSL_RCVD" or "LotW_QSL_RCVD" items
are set to 'S'. These items may have been set to 'S' by you manually, or
they may have been set to 'S' by DXKeeper's Submission generator. Initially,
the set of QSOs so marked is a set you intend to send to the ARRL's DXCC
desk; then they become a set that you have conveyed to the DXCC desk, and
finally a set that the DXCC desk has reviewed and acted upon prior to your
seeing the results of their action.

If during this process, a member of the submission initially confirmed by
QSL card is confirmed via LotW, what should DXKeeper do? For all it knows,
the QSO in question could have already been conveyed to the DXCC desk, or
even verified by that organization. For DXKeeper to unilaterally demote the
QSO's "QSL_RCVD" from 'S' to 'Y' would be incorrect; that would produce an
incorrect result were you to invoke the "Verify Submission" operation after
receiving notice that your submission had been entirely approved.

What DXKeeper should do in this circumstance is include in its summary of
the "Sync LotW QSLs" operation's results an indication that a QSO marked
"submitted" has been newly confirmed via LotW; you can then decide what
action is appropriate given the actual state of the submission. I'll ensure
that the next version of DXKeeper does this.

Okay - I understand. I guess where my thought processes were was that you needed to see what "stopped" when the contact was lost.

I'll play with it some and see if I can be aware when the contact goes away.

The MARAC Logger that I thought was possibly part of the problem doesn't use a serial port, so there's no competition there, at least not for COM control.

The contact between Commander and the K3 did seem much better after I changed the router to use the "patched" version of the K3 file. It's just irritating to change bands and suddenly discover that Commander didn't react and DXKeeper, instead of recording the change to 17M, left the freq on 20M. Most of my activity lately has been relegated mostly to 20M, so it hasn't been too scary.

Not exactly certain how to engage this scenario. If I turn on "log
debugging" and don't lose control, you'll learn nothing. If I work for a
while and then discover I've lost contact with Commander, that won't help
either, will it?

How large can the file get before it will give you problems? I could turn
debugging on first thing and then run as normal as possible (at least as
normally as I've been running!), but the debugging file might get kind of
large.

Thanks Ken. I remember back in the days when I was a flight sim fanatic. Guys were constantly running programs that "cut out" the unnecessary background processing of programs you really didn't need (or wnat) that were hogging CPU time.

I shut off my Avast processing, but the program still downloads updates, so I guess something like Task Scheduler is still running.

Not nearly as sophisticated on PC processing as I used to be. Took too much time to "keep up!"

I use Game Booster. While this little program was designed for serious
game players, it will do what you are asking. Freeware. Works for me,
but there may be other, better programs that I don't know about.

I worked Kazakhstan yesterday, UN7DA. When the QSO is selected in the
DXKeeper 8.1.6 main window, the 'DXCC' is flashing red indicating a problem
but the DXCC code is correctly set to 130 and the prefix is UN. Now it
doesn't permit me to do anything else in the window until the error is
corrected. What is the error and how do I fix it?

First, open the Config window's General tab, and click the "Database
Info" button at the bottom; if the "DXKeeper Database Info" window shows
that your DXCC Database version is less than 2.2.7, then use the Databases
tab of DXView's Config window to upgrade your DXCC Database.

Then, select the Main window's "Check Progress" tab and click the
Recompute button along the bottom.

If this doesn't get you going, Ed, please let me know.
