UV5r - signalink - raspberry pi - APRS

Hardware: UV5R, SignaLink, Raspberry Pi3, APRS
Software: Bookworm, Direwolf

I have an APRS digipeater/igate set up with the above hardware software. It beacons, repeats, and igates, but when the SignaLink transmit light goes off and relay changes, the UV5R still transmits for a couple seconds. Anyone have any idea why?

Thanks

Re: Baofeng UV-82HP Memory programming

RT Systems now has software and true cables for most Baofeng radios, they sure save a lot of time when programming and they work with chirp

If you get no responses here, you may want to be the pioneer here and try it and
see, then let us know if it worked.

If you don't find CHIRP supports your particular radio, you might check RT
Systems and see if they have software that works for your model. It's a bit
easier to use than CHIRP and supports more models than CHIRP does, but it isn't
free.

The Chinese HT makers have come out with so many different models and variations
that it's no surprise that CHIRP can't keep up on a low-budget operation and
offering it for "free" to hams.

Re: DM-1701 pc driver problems

Hi Donald,

I found the error.... very stupid ! I inserted the connector into the radio but not all the way, it was missing the last click, towards the end it was hard to insert.?
Now everything works perfectly except it is impossible to install the original CPS Baofeng software... incompatible with WIN10.

Thanks for your reply Donald !

are fake Prolific cables out there that the driver won't recognize, so that
could be the source of the problem.

If you have the FTDI cable, the drivers should work. The third type needs its
own specific driver but Windows may have that built into the operating system.

So if you're installing the wrong driver for your cable, it won't work, and if
you are installing the Prolific driver for a Prolific chipset cable, it may not
work if the cable is a knock-off of the real thing.

I don't know if this will point you in the right direction for a solution, but
these things came to mind.

This cable should work:

It says Windows will usually recognize the cable and use it's built-in driver,
but it does come with a mini-CDROM with the driver software if it's needed. It's
sold in the Amazon Baofeng store.

You also have the ability to program the radio from the front panel, but it's a
lot of work.

Memory programming

I have a Baofeng UV-82HP which is a nice HT, and I would like to use it on satellites.? However, you cannot manually program crossband memories in it, and setting the repeater shift to large values doesn't work either.? Will using CHIRP to program it allow me to store crossband memories in it, like where it receives on 437.810 and transmits on 145,990?

I receive my posts by email, so I would not know if something got pinned or not

Re: UV-5R Dual band mod to 220 MHz band

The topic appears to be getting stale, but I'll respond since it's pinned...

Since I've recently been on an APRS kick, I ordered a second uv5r for dedicated aprs use. I was able to successfully unlock the 1.25m band, and here is a shot of what that looks like (60db pad was installed for all my tests):

I can't imagine anyone would call that useable. Regardless, this radio did test clean on the 2m and 70cm bands. Before I let that statement encourage purchasing... I should add that yesterday I also retested my older uv5r. That radio did test clean on 2m and 70cm out of the box, but here is how it looks now:

So my old one is garbage, and I assume I'll have to keep retesting the new one every couple weeks so I can take it off air before it goes illegal on me. Lesson learned... no more Baofeng for this kid.

Programming Boafeng UV5RA3 & UV5RX3 With Chirp for 220

Some of you may have already attempted to program 220 freqs on your UV5R*3 with Chirp which resulted in permanently disabling the radio's 220 ability. Here's what you must do.

#1, You must use the latest version of Chirp requiring Windows 10 or later on a 64 bit machine. You can not use Chirp Legacy!

#2, Set Chirp to Radioddity UV5RX3. Download from the radio's it's factory image file and save it.

#3, Inter all the frequency channel data you want.?

#4, Selected "advanced settings". At the bottom of the list read "Range Override Parameter". The factory setting is "default". Change this to "atyourownrisk". You can not paste it in.(see attached)

#5, Upload data to your radio. If you have a second radio to program you must repeat step #4.?

#6, Save as:?Radioddity_UV-5RX3 UseAtOwnRisk

The "Range Override Parameter" will go back to "default" after every download, and it can not be save.

Notes on 220 in other Baofeng UV5's:
Contrary to what you have seen on youtube videos, changing the range of a UV5R will not allow operation on 220. While the radio may accept programming on that band, it will not function. Of the 5 radios that I did this to, only one had measurable output power, and it had heavily distorted audio.

Earlier UV5RA3 versions specifically built to included 220 do not appear to require the special care outlined above. I have programmed them with Chirp legacy without issue.

You will not see the advanced settings menu in Chirp Legacy that you have in the Windows 10/64 version.

Can I setup UV5Rx3 or BFF8HP or UV9R Pro for two-tone paging encode/decode ?

My local EmComm group is trying out alerting two-tone audio alerts for severe weather events.
Are BaoFeng HTs programmable to use this feature?
BaoFeng website isn't clearest on this
Thanks,

I did see the whole thread about the prolific driver, but I tried 3 different cables (2 FTDI and a different one that requires no driver) and none of them worked. All of my other radios worked flawless with all of those cables. It¡¯s a shame as the 5RH was a really nice radio, but the 5RM is essentially the same thing and I have it working perfectly. Love it.
