UV-17R PLUS DTMF Feature
According to the documentation, DTMF options can be changed by pressing the # key.
?
When I do that, it comes up with an empty menu, and for each time I press the # key, it adds a "#" with no explanation of what the #s mean.? I got it to ####,? now I can neither add? nor delete #s, and I have? no idea what any of this means.? The manual just tells me how user friendly it is.
?
What am I missing?

Re: UV-82 frequency split
Name, please? . . .
See Mike's comments but if you can otherwise split the band/frequency, then using a PL tone where you don't need it should not be a problem. Now, if you needed a DIFFERENT PL tone for each frequency, that would not be possible. I don't know if this BF HT has a dual-watch feature, but if it does, there might be a way to let it receive on the 2nd VFO and transmit on the first, which might get you what you want. I will defer to Mike on this, though, since I don't have one of these. I have a UV-5R and don't use it much, and it has so many options and features I don't even know about I can't consider myself an expert on it, either. Hello Ricky,
Baofengs since they are built to a price (low price) do not perform like others in the marketplace. You get what you pay for. It is well known that Baofengs are unsensitive, unselective and their transmitters are dirty as their harmonics are way too high.
Because of this, they are totally banned in some countries and here in Australia, amateurs are the only people who are allowed to use them, since we are allowed to design and build our own radios.
If you want a radio that should perform to spec, spend a few more dollars and buy a more reputable brand.

I bought a UV-25 from an Ebay store, and the radios receiver was Insensitive, it receives poorly.? ?
?
After complaining, the Ebay seller sent me another radio.? ?It turns out that both radios receivers are insensitive.??
?
Using a TinyVNA's signal generator, through a switched step attenuator, the full quieting receive level is approximately -90dBm on 146, 440 MHz + WX channels.? ? This level equates to approx. 6uV, or S6.? ? ?VNA's signal generator sends a quiet carrier,
no modulation.
?
Using the same testing method on my other handy talkies, I achieve full quieting at -115 to -120 dBm.? ? ? ? ? Note:? I used my Rigol Spec Analyzer to verify that my test signals are accurate +/- 1dB.??
?
Searching Google and Youtube for help- I find Zilch.? ?Could there an option that I don't understand the meaning of that could be set wrong?? ? ?Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks in Advance.

Buying from such a source is ill-advised. As I understand it, Baofeng has good QC, and radios that don't pass the final test get onto a shrink-wrapped pallet and auctioned to the highest bidder,? rather than repaired to specifications. Those are the radios that are sold on eBay, which explains why you got a second one as a replacement. Choose a vendor who buys the radios that pass QC, such as ... it's worth the money. |

RT Systems now are supporting the MAC OS for some radios
Here's some news from the Repeaterbook's Tower Talk newsletter.
"Have you been waiting to use the amazing RT Systems radio programming software but you have a Mac? RT Systems has now released a MacOS version of their popular programming software for select radios. Download and get your radio programmed today!" Not all radios are supported, but some of the more popular ones are. Re: NO SFT-D SAVING MEMORY CHANNEL
John T. Blair
Phil,
I know this is now some 1 1/2 yrs after your post so I'm assuming you have figured it out by now.? Did you?? I don't see where you did figure it out. I wanted to learn how to manually program the UV-S9 so that if I go to a new area and have to add a repeater I could as I may not have my programming cable, a computer, and the CHIRP program with me.? That said I had all kinds of problems trying to program my reg.? I would take too long to go between each step, ie menu items 13, 25, 26, and finally 27.? So the hole things seemed to get flushed.?? Also not knowing what I'm doing some times I'd press EXIT to get out of one of the menu options I ended up in.? DON'T do that it appears to kick you out of the programming mode and all your work is erased. I'm also trying to figure out if you have to be in the upper upper VFO register (A/B) to program the rig.? I seem to be able to program it in either the upper or lower of the two settings.? Or am I misinterpreting what I've done? Is there a way to edit a specific item stored in a given channel or do I have to completely delete that channel and reprogram it with the updated data and restore it in the original channel number? I will definitely admit that using CHIRP makes things a lot easier.? But again it looks like with the to change and item that is stored within an channel, or to add or delete a channel,? you will have to download all the data from your radio, then change the item you want and then upload the entire data set.? Which isn't really a problem. JohnT? WA4OHZ |

Re: Programming the UV-17 PRO MAX
Thanks for your responses. I've determined that my issue is communication, PC to HT. The cable I have is at least 10 years old and is the Prolific unit. Also I'm trying to use it on laptop that still uses Windows 7 (it's just comfortable). So it looks like a new cable and the software from RT is in order. Thanks again folks...Bill - N6GHz
