Re: NO SFT-D SAVING MEMORY CHANNEL

开云体育

I have three Baofengs: UV-S9, UV-S9PLUS, and UV-5R and they all retain SFT-D in the memories whether set for positive, negative, or OFF for simplex.

?

The user manual I received with the UV-5R is more detailed than those received with the others and it provides two methods for setting the offset. I discussed these in a previous thread here. The first method involves setting both receive and transmit frequencies and the second involves setting the receive frequency (transmit from the repeater's standpoint) and SFT-D.

?

I was having trouble with the first method until a friend pointed out that it yields the correct transmit and receive frequencies during operation only if SFT-D is set to OFF or OFFSET is set to zero.

?

I haven't checked whether or not the two frequencies specified in the first method are retained when stored in memory, but when I specify SFT-D directly, it is retained and can be recalled and used. I don't know whether this will help with your problem, but I'm throwing it out here in case it might.

NO SFT-D SAVING MEMORY CHANNEL

Gday to all,

To, manually, program a memory channel, I use RECEIVE freq in the top register, then effortlessly use the menu to enter offset, SFT-D, etc.

Even with a blank channel assignment, SFT-D is never saved to a memory channel. However, things go perfectly in VFO mode.

Too much T-Giving turkey?

On the second screen shot I think I? drop down two from what is posted in the screen shot and click on the USB.? Unless you have an older computer that truly has com ports.
As I said in another post the RT Systems cables ALWAYS work for me right out of the box.

The correct port can be found by trial and error or by looking in device manager under "Ports (COM & LPT). The name will vary with the type of IC in the USB cable, CH340 for my cable.

IDK how to identify a cable that will indeed work with this radio.

I'm running a Lenovo laptop without a CD / DVD driver in it running 64 bit Win 11 or 12, whatever the latest upgrade was.
I follow the setup instructions, including installing the drivers.? It ran perfectly for me right out of the box..? I download and install the? software and drivers while I wait for the cable if I don't already own the proper cable.

Probably it has installed on another COM. Check in the Device manager
what COM ports you have, and set Chirp to use this port.

Dan,

?

This is the exact cable that I got from Banggood (same name cable being sold by Aliexpress), and have used it with two Baofengs (different models) now and one other (done for friend)

?

It handles the largest range of HT’s, including multiple brands)

?

No redirections / no affiliate links

?

As it correctly says in not so good English is that it does not come with the Radio programming software (e.g. Chirp)

?

The unit (at the time) uses a CH340 Serial chip (built into the cable) and the main issue is getting Windows to load the right driver (you need to get it from a site, which I can provide).

?

Once loaded you can use any applications with it that communicate over a serial connection which includes Chirp and similar products supported by the Radio Manufacturer.

?

The one thing I do note is that you are using Windows XP, and whilst I am one for stretching hardware/OS as far as they can go, particularly when you are working with hardware interfaces (FTDI etc), you are going to struggle to get it working with systems like Windows XP. It might be that your existing cables are usable, but the drive is failing on Windows XP.

?

I also appreciate that we all do not have a lot of disposable income to continue buying the latest and greatest, but their comes a time when your time is more valuable (and in some cases too short) where the economics means at least upgrading to a second hand laptop or small desktop capable of running Windows 10 (ignore the Deck Chair mover Windows 11), as old used ex gov desktops can be picked up for Approx $20 and a laptops for approx. $100 with the windows 10 sticker still on it..

The ONLY system I trust is the RT Systems software and cable.? I've used them on my Yaesu FT8900R mobile, a couple of Yaesu VX 150 portables, a Baofeng UV5RHP portable, and a Baofeng BF-F8+.? I think that I've also used them on some other Kenwood rigs.
For the Baofeng portables I have 2 other programming cables.? One came with one of the Baofengs when I bought it used at a hamfest.? The other came from a buddy in my ham club.? Neither of them worked.? The RT Systems cable worked perfectly right out of the box.

Re: New UV-5R will not unlock

There is a thing called, egregious circumstance. Call that, very dire and unforeseeable emergency. It's sort of a last hope CYA. It allows, where no other route can be found, for a lifesaving measure to be taken, almost with impunity.? A grenade, whose pin you expect to never be pulled.

In such an egregious circumstance, one *might* risk such a transmission, *to save a life.*

Generally of course, relaying information of the dire need to authorities is better all around.

Yes, I'd eventually like to get around to unlocking mine, when I learn well, ALL the frequencies and rules, by heart. Cheat sheets are fine, but get wet and worn. Nothing on which to rely.

I smelled smoke one and saved a neighbor's house. Officially, I should not have known. I should have called in a smoke complaint. I banged on his door and not waiting, grabbed his hose, preventing all damage. Tan bark had caught due to a cigarette spark having escaped hus son's outdoor bucket of water, where the son was allowed to smoke. It was replaced with gravel.

Stuff happens. Under some circumstances, most of us would bend a rule or two. But, ONLY then.

Egregious circumstance... when you are effectively between significant harm to body or property and 911.

Re: New UV-5R will not unlock

Baofeng UV-5R radios can be programmed in the frequency from 378 to 568Mhz and from 126 to 250Mhz, the illegal depends on the country in which it is used.

Re: New UV-5R will not unlock

You could unlock it for any frequency, as long as you don't use it on
frequencies that you're not licensed for, and also not if it's not FCC type
accepted for services outside the amateur bands.

The FCC would not approve of say using one of these to transmit (receive is OK)
in the FRS service band since it's not type accepted, even if you matched the
allowed wattage.

Would they know you're doing that in the FRS band? I seriously doubt it.

Same for the GMRS service. Even with a license. Since it's not type accepted.
Receive would be OK, of course. That would also go for putting it on a
government frequency like the local police band, even if they're going to be
transmitting by the licensed police.

So unlock away, as long as you don't transmit outside the band the radio is type
accepted for and you're licensed for.

Interesting that you would deliberately want to break the law and publicize the fact that you intend to?
I suppose next we can expect a u-tube video on how to make your radio illegal?
We have enough problems with illegal radios operating on amateur bands without folks creating more illegal radios.

If you're referring to something else, please ignore this.

If you're trying to unlock it to transmit out of the ham bands, I read that the
FCC made them lock transmit to just the ham bands since they're not type
accepted for other services. They got into a lot of trouble several years back
over this.

I have some BF-888's and they're able to transmit on government frequencies, the
440 MHz band, and FRS/GMRS frequencies, too. Some got imported in packaging
that said they were license-free radios. I thought these were just FRS radios,
but they were much more than that, and nothing was even mentioned about FRS on
the box, just that no license was required to use them. Nothing could be further
from the truth, and even though I programmed them for ham frequencies, which
makes it legal for me, someone could program for FRS/GMRS and they would be
illegal there due to not being type accepted, also having about 10X the power
output allowed on FRS.
