Back to Caldwell for a second
Ron Robisch
Now that we're all priming ourselves for the window of
opportunity to complete the Messier Marathon, can anyone tell me if there's a similar window (or windows) of opportunity to complete a Caldwell Marathon??? -Ron Robisch BTW - Some of you may have my old rrobisch@... e-mail address. It's obsolete now - got a new job! My new work e-mail is now ntirobisch@.... Home e-mail remains robisch@... __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! By the way, The Caldwell certificate, like the Messier certificate, requires that the observer not use goto or digital setting circles. Ted |

Virus Warning
In a note to me (see below) Mickey Baker warned of a virus he had
experienced. For detailed information about it, here is the URL for the McAfee AntiVirus Web site. George Please take note. Saturday, Monday, and again today (Weds.) I have received a virus via e-mail. Sat. and today I got two mailings. If any on the BBAA list have recevied a file advising of a Microsoft Upgrade, do not touch it. It looks very official, even to having registration update pages. This is virus know as W32/Gibe.B@mm, which is going around here in Tidewater via e-mail. I have removed 6 lists and am down to this one and Police-L, which is good a filtering their mail. I got two on my down load of e-mail today. Norton and other anti-virus programs should detect it if it is attached to another e-mail, but may not if it comes in as the upgrade file This was scanned prior to being sent, but it is good to scan everything. the sky, with declinations ranging from +85 to -81 so you would have to be located pretty near the equator to have a shot at them all. But Perhaps you mean a marathon session where you observe all the objects that rise above your horizon at your latitude? Its an interesting problem. Here at mid northern latitudes, I wouldn''t be surprised if its not close to the vernal equinox, just like the Messiers. Now in the forward to the Caldwell book, Sir Patrick ponders ... who will be the first to survey ALL the Caldwells and the Messier's in the fewest number of nights? Sounds like a challenge to me. Directions for Saturday
Re: the "Starry Night" at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens on Saturday March 8 for those of you that want to help.
(I'll be there if there is any chance of clear skies, but I'm not going if it is totally overcast.)... We want to be there, set up at 6 p.m. It is at the "Education Building". From the toll booth at the Bot Gardens: Continue down main garden road, road will curve sharply to the left (Administration building is also on left.) The road then opens up into the main parking lot, Baker Hall Visitor Center will be on your left (You will see a fountain and a Norfolk Mermaid Statue there)....Education Entrance is at the far right hand end of the building. (Also known as Rose Garden Hall)...use that entrance. We'll meet you there (5:30 is fine, come as early as you need to.) Telescopes will be set up on the terrace behind the Education building. |

If you've got a dedicated phone line for the computer, figure that into the cost too.

Cox High Speed Internet does cost a bit more, and you get a lot of
performance for the bucks: Your phone line remains free. If you have a second phone line, you may cancel it after you get the cable modem and save that cost. If you currently have a pay ISP (MSN, AOL, EXIS...) you may cancel that too and save that cost. Together, the price of a second phone line and an ISP are about the same as the Cox High Speed Internet price (with cable) so you should just about break even. You get: 3Mbps-download speed, 256Kbps-upload speed Always on 7 email addresses Up to 70 MB of Web space 24x7 Tech Support No long term contracts 30 day money back guarantee The service costs $39.95 w/cable. You can rent the modem ($10/month), or buy one from many sources. I do not want to turn this into a sale pitch, I know, too late, I'm sorry and I will stop here. I am just very passionate about the service I provide (yes, I provide). I work for Cox and I run the Master Telecommunication Center, the old term was `headend'. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to send them my way. kevin.weiner@... Kevin PS: Our scope (my wife Barb and I) is due tomorrow. We both do solemnly swear and promise that we will not open the box and let the clouds out until after Friday night :) See you tomorrow at TCC. |

Dick, Yahoo is MUCH, MUCH better than Hotmail!? I am gradually migrating over to Yahoo for most of my correspondence.? It is more user-friendly, has a?better address book function (you cannot sort hotmail addresses by last name!!!), and seems more robust.? Hotmail has been giving me errors lately, in the middle of messages I was composing, with no escape -- I lose everything and the application terminates!? I get a tremendous amount of junk mail and sleazy spam?in Hotmail, and almost none in Yahoo.? I daily have to delete half a dozen ads in Hotmail for Viagra and breast enlargement (and other less reputable emails) without ever opening them. I say I am gradually moving to Yahoo, because I have almost 150 addresses and 15 group address lists in Hotmail.? It is taking me a while to move everything over, as I want to check and make sure all the addresses are current as I make the switch.? I may keep a small account as a "catchall" or backup.? I'm thinking, if I shut down the hotmail account, the spammers may come looking for me in Yahoo.? Maybe I can use the old account as my "flypaper'.? (!) George ?Richard Moncure wrote:
