at Ohlone Park's 50th Anniversary

Ohlone Park, Berkeley
June 1st, 2019
11 am ¨C 4 pm

?

I¡¯m inviting you to a most remarkable event. Along with the Alliance for California Traditional Arts, Friends of Ohlone Park, Heyday Books, and others, we're sponsoring a California Indian Arts & Culture Festival in Berkeley. We've invited some twenty of Native California's most skilled and accomplished artists, boat builders, storytellers, basket weavers, bead makers, singers, and others. Carefully curated by Jennifer Bates (founding board chair of the California Indian Basketweavers Association), it provides a rare occasion to experience a world of highly evolved skills and deep passions rooted in thousands of years of habitation in a place we've only begun to know. This is a world I'm sure you'll find inspiring. It's a personal honor to be hosting this. It¡¯s free, open to the public, and family friendly. It would be a joy to see you there. Anyone can come, but if you can RSVP to info@... we'll know to expect you.

Inferno Theatre: OTHELLO IN OAKLAND OPENS FRIDAY MAY 24

Oakland / Inferno Theatre Presents

OTHELLO by William Shakespeare

?
Re-imagining Shakespeare, this gripping show deals with the conditions of human relationships, and how we deal with love, marriage, hate, manipulation, ?gender, and race in a time of war.

Can a story written in sociological and political shades of black and white in 1603 talk to us today in shades of color? We are living in a very different time and place from the setting of Shakespeare's play, but the Bard's prodigious understanding of human nature can still move us beyond our stereotypes and speak to us with all the colors of the human race.
At the Brooklyn Preserve, 1433 12th Ave, Oakland, CA 94606 ????MAY 24 - JUNE 9. Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays.

Chora Nova makes The French Connection with works of Saint-Sa?ns and Poulenc

Two great French sacred works are on the program: Poulenc¡¯s Gloria and Saint-Sa?ns¡¯ Requiem.

Chora Nova makes The French Connection with works of Saint-Sa?ns and Poulenc

Paul Flight, Artistic Director

Is it any surprise that Saint-Sa?ns (1835-1921) and Poulenc (1899-1963) were not much enamored of each other¡¯s works? Two or three generations, more than sixty years, separated them in age, along with a huge shift in musical style ¨C from the romanticism of Saint-Sa?ns¡¯ era to the modernism of Poulenc¡¯s. Yet both composers created works that could be delightfully playful ¨C or deeply serious, and both are regarded today as quintessentially French in style.

It is their serious works that Artistic Director Paul Flight has chosen to highlight in Chora Nova¡¯s concert on May 25. We hope you will share our delight in Saint-Sa?ns¡¯ Requiem and Poulenc¡¯s Gloria.
