Depth gauge
FYI; This is an answer if you are looking for a cheap depth gauge. Fidgety, but it works. This IS a depth micrometer. It's accurate to two decimal places. It's just being sold as a tire tread gage. Assuming it's properly made (not a guarantee with Banggoods stuff), I see no reason why it can't?be used. Mike Taglieri? 开云体育??????????????? It is definatly a depth micrometer. I have been working to adapt one to the tailstock of my Cumins. You could have? one on every axis for less than $20. Sometimes better is the enemy of “good enough”.??? Bill in Boulder CO Sent from for Windows 10 ? From: Miket_NYC

开云体育Yes.? A “depth micrometer” is a different measuring tool.? A “depth micrometer” would be the mechanical style micrometer scheme with the rotating barrel.? The Bangood device is, however, a real “digital depth gauge” (in the same sense as a “digital caliper”).? It is just a pretty cheap one and being marketed with a tip on it suitable for checking tires.? But it would be completely usable for machining within its limits. ? It does seem to have a plastic base (cheap) instead of a machined and ground metal base.? It seems to have the identical head on it that I have on a cheap 4” Chinese digital caliper (very handy size sometimes – but it became unreliable so I recently bought a Mitutoyo 4 inch). ? If I didn’t already have a depth micrometer and wanted something inexpensive, I would probably try one of these.? It is easy to check them.? You can make a setup with gage blocks but most won’t have those.? So instead you set a flat piece you have measured on another flat piece and measure the step.? Not ideal, but probably fine in the world of mini-lathes.? In the case it might read slightly off, it should read slightly off at all positions as an offset error.? You would just have to remember that offset. ? Chuck K. ? ? Sent from for Windows ? From: OldToolmaker via groups.io
