It is on subject? about safely removing a tap. Nitric acid is not safe to use it can also damage your part. Sorry I know it not the answer you wanted. It would nice if they made a low cost EDM . Dave

Helicoils can let down like heads of engines. They do make a insert that is solid like allen set screw that works better. Dave

Here is photo . All had to do was wirer the transformer in 2009. If look close I used a left hand acme thread witch not need but had time. I also include a vibrator not need but had time . Dave

Sorry for being a little off subject but this is a lot safer than Using nitric acid . I do not no of anyone use lathe has not broken a tap. I will dig out my edm and photograph it was made on a lathe

You have Automovie Machine Shop do the work. Most today are for machining but ato shops use the lower cost ones. You can build one for a microwave transformer.? Very low cost just for taps. I started
