Broaching guides
I need to broach some keyways in gears for my lathe but need to make some guides. What is the width of the slots for type A and B guides?

Re: interesting
It could be done on a mini-lathe, as you say, with appropriately downsized material. Caution on the fire hazards of such experiments! -- Lone Tree, Colorado? ?USA

Re: interesting
?Dear Mike, Thank you, that was very interesting. Forgive my ignorance, but could you do this on a mini lathe, using appropriately sized (smaller) components, i.e. is the (average?) motor powerful

Re: Holes in cast iron
Goot some India made milling vise components and found several big blowholes filled with cheap Bondo. Dug it all out, cleaned it up, and thought about how to best fill the holes. After some time

Re: Holes in cast iron
I think people are blowing this out of proportion. The original poster seemed to be talking about small, cosmetic holes. For these, epoxy should be sufficient with no need for welding, brazing, etc.

Get a junk vice from a garage sale or Goodwill for practice, to see how it will turn out for whatever method you chose. Don't practice on the item you want to keep. For the mig, you can get Silicon

Bill, I honestly don¡¯t know what they are worth. (I saw some for sale on the internet and thought the prices were insane. That would lead me to think he might not be selling anything anymore.

Re: Holes in cast iron
There are some color matching rods for brazing cast iron! They're not an exact color match, but, they're gray instead of brass colored. They're also trickier to use than classic bronze rods. <
