I drilled out the shank in two steps, deep for the thin end and another at the top for the big end near the file itself. I don't know if that helped or that cheap wood is just so springy that it comes

Dunno, apparently not $28.90 ($19.95+$8.95 shipping). They are in New Jersey so WA state is not all that much closer than Oz ;-). Hopefully it will be simple enough that there won't be any ;-).
